What Is the POP Movement?

Protect Our Planet (POP) is an initiative designed to address the urgent need to share information and knowledge with youth on solutions to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the UN, mitigate climate change and adapt to its growing impacts. Intended to motivate and inspire action by youth to ultimately reach the size, scale and momentum to become a global movement, POP mobilizes the youth worldwide to take collective action needed to mitigate climate change and protect threatened ecosystems.

Meeting with the President of the Norwegian Parliament
Founder & Chief Mentor of the POP Movement, Dr. R.K. Pachauri met with the President of Norwegian Parliament, Olemic Thommesen on Jun 16, 2016. At the meeting the President emphasized the importance of the energy farm project which essentially involves production of energy based on renewable resources on a decentralized basis. When informed about the POP Movement, Mr. Thommesen felt that students could get involved in the establishment of energy farms by which in a number of non-urban areas renewable energy could be supplied on a sustainable basis without increasing emissions of greenhouse gases and by giving the local communities the power to decide their own form of energy supply.

POP Visits Paris

Our Chief Mentor, Dr. Pachauri met former Minister of France, Mr. Jean-Louis Borloo in Paris on May 22, 2016, and held detailed discussions with him and his colleague Ms. Priscillia Andrieu. Regarding the program Energies for Africa, which has been conceptualized and initiated by Mr. Borloo, he felt that the POP Movement has substantial synergy, particularly since the number of youth in Africa and their proportion as part of the total population makes them an important ally to both initiatives. Mr. Borloo and Ms. Priscillia Andrieu agreed to an event of the POP Movement to be held at COP-22, which is scheduled in Marrakesh, Morocco in November, 2016.
